Joybird
The major online furniture retailer, Joybird, is fully to blame for breaking me wide open for color.
It’s true.
Although I didn’t know it at the time, my color journey had only just begun.
Now, many years later, my favorite saying has become “Color is a Life Force” because it is. Evolution gave us the ability to process color before we are even able to formulate thoughts or words around how we feel. Color has the power to influence our moods and behaviors in many ways we have yet to comprehend.
The problem is that many fail to capitalize on its power because they fear they will make the wrong choice or even worse, have buyers remorse if they fully commit to a colorful sofa in the way I did. But, let me tell you what, I have never once regretted the joy this sofa brought to our lives.
This is exactly why the photo of said sofa took the inter-webs by storm - because not only did it bring my space to life, but it showed others what they could have if only they had the courage to take a similar leap.
And, although the Joybird community was inspired by my bold sofa choice, none of us are entitled to claim photos as our own. So, to make it right, they offered me a handsome furniture stipend which I then paid forward to a family in need who also happens to be near and dear to my heart.
In the same way my bold Joybird sofa served as a catalyst for my love of color, I knew the space I designed for this family would need to embody a light-ness so as to foster healing while in the space.
I’d say we achieved just that.
