RETRO RESURRECTION

I have to admit, I barely remember record players — oh, but I definitely remember Rappers Delight and you better believe I’ve played it for my kids — with a little strategic volume control, of course. This room is a nod to all things retro. To me it feels footloose and fancy free. In keeping with that theme, I had one of my favorite local artist paint a graffiti mural (you can find more of his work here!) on the wall in none other than classic fat-tipped Sharpie.

Isn’t it fun?!?!

With retro comes nostalgia and so this little space would not have been complete if not for a reupholstered sofa, an up-cycled desk that my husband scribbled on as a child, and a pair of Longhorn Steer horns my late husband picked up during his Air Force basic training days.

It’s all of these little touches that, when combined, feel like a warm hug when I walk in — its as if this little space, although curated especially for my boys, somehow knows me too.

Good design should tell your story — that’s what makes it good.
